Here Comes the (Fake) Sun

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

Dear Dharma,

It’s November, the sun is gone, and I am miserable.

I am in this weird funk and I just can’t seem to pull myself out of it.  I could probably stay in bed until June and be completely content. This mood is affecting EVERY aspect of my life.

Any tips on how to turn this frown upside-down?

Sunless and Sad 🙁

Dear Sunless and Sad,

Your sign off name says it all.  You are likely a victim of SAD – Seasonal Affective Disorder.  (Remember, of course, that Dharma is not a doctor, and just likes to spout her opinion to a willing audience.  And sometimes not so willing, as friends and family might attest.)

The good news is that you’re not alone and it’s not terminal.  So there’s that, right?

There are lots of tips out there to help combat this condition – I’ve included some here for you – and the really great thing is that chocolate is one of them!  If we needed an excuse for more chocolate, we’ve got it!

Now it’s just a matter of how willing you are to put some of these tips into effect.  Another way put, how badly do you want to stop feeling this way?

To start off with, just pick one thing and put it into place.  I love the idea of a Dawn Simulator and might have to get one of these myself… fun, right?  And I’ve heard (but haven’t confirmed) that there may just be an app for this, so check it out!

Keep going through the list and do the manageable things.  Doing something is so much better than doing nothing and complaining about the results, right?

If, after everything, you are still experiencing these feelings, please go to the doctor and have them do a check-up, just to make sure all is good.
